Sometimes I wonder if people respect Asians in the Unites States. I feel like a lot of them work really hard, pay their taxes, make significant contributions in the world of research and academia, don't cause trouble, and are all-around good citizens. But sometimes I get the sense that a lot of people don't like them, are perhaps jealous of their success, and get a kick out of making fun of their language, how they look, or some other superficial aspect that really isn't important at all. It seems like it's often okay to make fun of Asians but not other minorities. Am I wrong? Do people in the US respect Asians or do most people hate them?

I don't know about people, but I respect Asians a great deal. I think that most of them are very hard working, make positive contributions to this country...have you ever seen an Asian on welfare, proudly paying with food stamps? I haven't. They are ethical, industrious, courteous, etc.

Huh? Seems to me that Asians are the most-respected and most tolerated minority group in this country. Non minority people also tend to see Asians as the best-looking of all the minority groups. I have quite a few Asian friends, and this is what I've heard from them...

I'd rather have someone make fun of my language and my looks and be jealous of my success, than have them consider me stupid, criminal, and ugly (which is the way Black people are seen in the US).

What an marvelous theory! And think of of all the different reward: a countrywide anthem that has the distinctive function of singability regardless of its tergid character, the culinary contributions of Canada consisting of poutine, and of direction the splendidly indiosyncratic dialectical oddities of Quebecois French. Tabernac! yet extra effective than something, I ought to salute the Canadian unmarried-minded dedication to mediocrity. Now take off, eh! ;-) added comments: Oh, mon Dieu! Je m'accuse. i think like one in each and every of those hoser. i will hear to the gathered hits of Celine Dion as penance... Cheers!

My 1st Generation American Chinese friend Calvin got this alot:

"Hey Chinese kid, you know Karate?" when he answered no they'd beat him up.

Asians are thought to be brilliant, weirde nerds whos parents keep them locked up with computers and have no sexuality especially the men and the woman are docile and subservient.

I guess no. My friend Bonnie, the most VALLEY girl I know gets: "Your English is really good" all the time. SHE'S FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...HER ENGLISH SHOULD BE GOOD!!!!! even if she only went to public school!

As long as a person wants to come to the USA and live as the rest of us do, and do not try and make the part of the states they are living in a small part of their own country, we have always welcomed every nationality into the USA, its when they still live as they would have before they come here, we do not hate, we are just comfortable with what is here and if we wanted to see your part of the world we would ourselves visit or move there, so please do not take it as we hate you, we hate that we are being forced to change to your beliefs and we are losing our identity, i have met a few americans that do hate, but i keep them as far from my family as i can. so please take my welcome and feel comfortable here in the USA, good luck to you.

Hell yes, they're respected...and for good reason.
If the Ivy League colleges didn't put a strict quota on them, Asian students would make up about 25% of all their freshman classes.
(Oh...excuse me....it's not really a "Quota"...they're just trying to maintain "critical mass" for other ethnicities..)

This red-blooded American respects them. As long as they are here legally and work instead of sitting on their backsides like so many of my fellow Americans, I have no problem with them.

I also find them to be very intelligent, talented and a beautiful people.

Since when do people hate Asians? If its any people the US doesnt have respect for it would have to be the Mexicans at the moment.

Asians are pretty damn smart, and some of those Martial Artist kick ***, plus some Asian women can be pretty hott.
