The English were "kidnapping" US sailors to man their ships as they were becoming low on sailors from the war with Napoleon. Our president at the time did not like this so the US actually declared war on Engalnd and invaded Canada (US did not do well there and hopefully the Canadians have forgiven us!), Maine's border with Canada was changed after the war, The Star Spangled Banner was written, blacks were used during the war which was the first time US did that, etc....
Try going on-line to the history channel web site... I believe they have some information on this war... also I have attached a link that has the major battles and reasons for the war...
