Women don't covet diamonds as much as the advertising firms that produce television commercials make you think they do.
But no, no one would covet peanuts. They're not shiny and they don't last.

(Actually, I would rather have a man pick out a ring without diamonds but was chosen, in some way, with me in mind than have the boring old standard diamond engagement ring.)

the flaw in your question is that diamonds are not rare- they are hoarded in warehouses and the like to artificially jack up the price; and yeah, just try giving (most) woman a ring w/o diamonds; De Biers sucks a$$
