Well yes of course they are...!!!

Right now the oil companies have bought the White House.

The US does not have nationalized healthcare because the insurance and pharmaceutical companies as well as the AMA, the American Medical Association, pay big money through lobbyist to prevent it. It's in their benefit to prevent it as they are making HUGE profits. Payoff a few senators and congressman and nationalized healthcare is never voted on or if it ever comes to a vote it will lose.

Do you own a huge company that has been polluting the enviroment right and left? Why, buy a few senators and congressman and poof! - that enviromental law never sees the light of day.

Who do you think pays for these senators and congressman's campaigns? Do you think those companies and rich people do it out of the goodness of their hearts? Please! They do it so they get "favors" in return.

The US government is a corrupt as any other government. Why should it be any different?

It boils down to the rich get richer off from the poor, the ignorant and the uncaring. It has always been that way and will always be that way.

If Romney wins, then the answer is yes. I don't say that because I am a dem: I say that because 90% of Obama's donations are in the amounts of 200$ or less, but MOST of Romney's money comes from 5 to 10 people.

If you add UK to your question, I will definitely answer 'Yes'. There is a big police inquiry going on at the moment here into 'Titles for Loans'. You lend the governing part a million or so and you get a peerage. You then cancel the loan and turn it into a gift. This enables you to sit in the House of Lords, an unelected assembly who can veto lawmaking to their advantage. Disgusting..............

officially no. however if a member of the community were to donate a large sum of money to the politician's campaign fund, the politician might feel compelled to act in the interest of their contributor.
