Is it true that alls I have to do now, is purchase a wireless internet "card" for the laptop and then I will be able to access the web?
This seems to be to easy,if it is ,please inform me on what Iam forgetting and any other info you feel pertinent, such as another simple way to obtain internet access via my handmedwn laptop.

Buying a Wireless Card can be that simple, depending on where you live. Some cities around the country are providing free wireless internet to the city, meaning as long as you're in the city, you'll be able to connect.

However, if you're not in the city, you may have to provide your own wireless modem and/or even your own ISP service subscription.

you could also just try leeching off a neighbor with a wireless connection, too -- make sure its a neighbor you don't like :P

All a wireless card can do is allow you to connect to an existing wireless router that has a live Internet connection....meaning that you will only be halfway there.

Unless you take your laptop (with wireless card installed & configured) to what is called a "hotspot" (meaning a public area where people can connect freely to a wireless router) you will not be able to have an internet connection just with the card.

You can purchase kits from BestBuy or Circuit City than include both the card & a router for use at home ( not too expensive). Then you would have to sign up with a provider for Internet service.

If your laptop has an ethernet connection (RJ-45) you can purchase a regular "wired" router & connet your PC to it via a cable.

Either way you will need to be signed up for Internet service.

Nope don't buy it! It will not make it work basically the wireless card just lets Internet onto the laptop through a different way so if the Internet does not work it does not work! You seem really confused why do you need his MSN password??

If you have an ISP you should not need to do anything else except the computer correctly in the LAN and Internet settings. As I am not sure if you using dial up or broadband it would be tough to give you a direction to fix this problem. Contact your own ISP and have them walking you through the process or send you a configuration disk.

Well you need to also buy a router that that card is compatible with.

They are either G, B, or GB. I recommend GB because they work with any externall card (assuming it does not have an internal one). I do not understand why you would need his MSN password to access the internet. I strongly recommend that you reformat the hard drive. That way you can start fresh and have all the memory that was otherwise used up with your friends' stuff.

You need your own Internet Service Provider! Either sign up for dialup, DSL, Broadband, or get a wireless card!

Canadian! Shutup before you screw the guys PC up so bad it will never work again! You dont reformat a PC for his problem! Stick to fixin sandwiches!

Hang on.. before you buy anything. His MSN password would be to HIS MSN account. If your going to dial up to the internet, you should be using your own MSN account.

Now, if your using a highspeed access method, ADSL, cable, etc, then you shoudl be able to uninstall MSN and still get connected.

You need to buy the card, or connect to a wired network, you will need to set up an account with an internet service provider.
