Only: dependent and self-centered
That is so true abut me.
Middle: achievement-oriented, but may set unrealistic goals that will end in failure
That is so true about my middle child.. he wants to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle when he grows up.. I see failure there.

Great question! I am an adopted only child but do not suffer from the dependent, narcissistic stereotype. I am actually the exact opposite.
I was extremely fortunate to be well raised in a stable, middle class, two-parent household. My mother was also a specialized teacher who was highly trained in child education and psychology.
My parents were also big travelers so I was exposed to many different people and cultures from a very young age. I was able to develop a healthy external "world view" that prevented a lot of potential pitfalls of only-childhood.
Thanks for asking! :-)

I'm the oldest, I don't think I fit that stereotype. I am generally lazy and not too responsible. I am a perfectionist with a near-photographic memory though. My next youngest brother is the responsible one who shows the tendency toward leadership.

I am an odd mixture of two -
I am an only child and the oldest child. So yes, I fit both stereotypes.
I feel I am an only child because I was raised and spoiled by my grandparents until I was 12.
I am also the oldest of 10 kids, so I definately play the big sister role well - and I always make sure to wrestle with them all a little too. (yes, even at almost 30)

I am the youngest out of 3. I have 2 older brothers. But I always felt "last" in everything. Not spoiled like the sterotypical last and only girl is considered to be at all. I fought for my parents attention. I wore hand me downs from my brothers, they usually got new. So, this made me feel like a tomboy and not a girl. I had felt left out most of the time. My brothers always were going somewhere with their friends and I never got to go anywhere or have friends over like they did. I was the one responsible for taking care of the housework. Our family albums mostly have pictures of my brothers because not only were we poor and my parents couldn't really afford to get pictures made, by the time they had me they were busy working all the time and couldn't always make the time to spend with us. I also always feel like my mother favors the boys over me. I could never live up to them and they will never do no wrong. I am an adult now and trying to live the best life I can.

I'm the oldest but counldn't be farther from this discription. I'm very liberal, enjoy making things happen but not power-oriented, I hate being the leader, I'd rather work equally as a group (but that has something to do with my libra qualities) :0)

I am the oldest. I am spoiled and very different than the rest of my family. I am the tree-hugger type and a vegan. They all love meat and could care little for the environment. I am a leader at times but sometimes don't like having others rely on me. I am more self sufficient.
