I have an 8 month old who eats solid foods now. What is the best way to clean the poop off the cloth diaper? I've been using the disposable liners but just wondered if there is a quick and easy way to clean the diapers if you aren't using a liner even when it's a mushy mess! My method was shake, rinse, and squeeze out the water but it was really messy so that's why I started to use liners. Anyone want to share their methods? Thanks.

I hated that in between stage, when my babies first started eating solids. I would just lay the diaper in the toilet and leave it for a while so that the poop would just fall off. I also kept a stack of flat diapers in the bathroom that I could wrap the wet diaper in, and take it to the diaper pail without wringing it out or trailing water all over the floor.

If you want something quick and easy I think a mini shower is your best bet. This is a sprayer that attaches to your toilet. You just spray off the mess into the toilet and throw the diaper into your diaper pail without wringing out.

Another option is a diaper duck. This is a device that hooks onto the toilet and securely holds the diaper into the toilet water. It is supposed to soak, rinse, and wring out your soiled diapers. If it does what it promises, then you would never have to even get your hands wet.

I also have heard of an invention called a 'Potty Pail' that could be helpful. I knew a cloth diapering mom that swore by it, but I have never tried it.

The traditional method is to have a lidded bucket full of water and a nappy soaker such as Napisan. As you change the nappies, you get rid of any poo off the nappy, then place it in the bucket. When the bucket is full, you pour the water out, place the nappies in the machine and simply give them a good rinse and spin. OR there is drypailing This alternative allows the washing machine to do the work for you. Once you have disposed of the poo (if any) you simply place the nappy in an empty bucket. (You might choose to rinse a poo-ey nappy first.) You could even use a rubbish bin with a flip-top lid or a tough bag. When the bin is full, you up-end it into the washing machine and then wash. No filling, emptying or lugging of buckets. However you may need to pre wash To get rid of smells, you need to do a hot wash NO detergent, but half a cup of bicarb soda; and then a quarter of a cup of vinegar to your rinse cycle

I also used cloth with my first daughter. I wish I had some fantastic method for cleaning the dirty ones, but I don't. I did the same as you, shake, rinse and squeeze!! I'll tell you though, with my second I only used disposable and now again with my third - yep, you guessed it, disposable!!! Good luck to you!!
