Light flow tampons are smaller because they don't have as much absorbent materials. That's why they're for light flows (of course)! Some companies even have mini sized tampons made for girls that are beginning to use tampons. I think Playtex and Tampax make some tampons with a slimmer design so that they are easier to slide in and have the exact same absorbency. Those are great for beginners, too. You might be able to get a slim sized tampon with regular absorbency. That might be easier to start with. Then once you get used to them, you can use super if your flow is heavy.

You can use regular tampons, you just have to change them more often. How often depends on you... sometimes as often as every 2-3 hours if you have heavy bleeding and you're using a smaller tampon than might be necessary.

Yes, they are much bigger. I'd start with a light one if I were you. You may also want to see if you can find some KY lubricant to help.

Make sure a tampon is never in longer than 8 hours or you could go into toxic shock, ok?

Make sure to insert it most of the way before pushing the applicator in. You shouldn't feel it at all. It might be easier to start with the light flow tampons. Goodl uck.
