A huge YES! Cognitive Behavioral therapy helps to re-train the mind to the judgments a person usually makes. This helps train the brain to focus on "all" the realities for the actions. It open new options and doors for thoughts to enter. Anyone stuck with only one form (usually self-destructive) of a thought process, can and will, benefit with this therapy.

Yes. 4 years before I became an R.N. I had a drinking problem.
I had heard of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD. who is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, and has his own Stress Reduction Clinic in Mass.; but it wasn't until I purchased a few of his books, and a couple of his CD audio books that I began to notice a big difference in my life. I have not drank, or even been the slightest bit tempted to drink any alcohol for over 26 years now. The desire for, and the cravings for alcohol have been totally erradicted. I have practiced his techniques in his books and audio books, which have Most definately proven effective. I am no longer depressed the slightest bit, and I handle anxiety through Dr. Kabat-Zinn's teachniques. I have a true inner Peace, stability in life and a happiness which I wouldn't trade for anything in life. There are 6 results from drinking alcohol and taking drugs: increasing quarrels, 2) decreasing wealth, 3) indecent exposure, 4) danger of diseases,
5) gaining a bad reputation, 6) ruining one's intelligence.
"Coming to Our Senses" is an excellent book to start with - by: Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD.

Another Excellent Author is Thubten Chodron.
Most people that drink alcohol, and even many who do not drink alcohol, suffer from Anger.
Anger has a very negative impact on themselves, on others, and makes it impossible to really see things in life, as they really are. The book "Working with Anger" BY: Thubten Chodron is Excellent, providing wholesome alternatives to, and showing how to put in practice - techniques toward working with anger, have been proven very effective as well.
"Open Heart, Clear Mind" BY: Thubten Chodron
is a very good book, which teaches a person how to walk with a clear mind(it is "NOT" from a Scientologist viewpoint{dianetics/scientology], utilizing one's full potential of their mind - to walk with success and total freedom in life. Through the techniques in this book, one is able to see things, people, situations, etc as they reallly are, thus resolve difficulties and the challenges in life is a sound and wholesome manner. She is not only a very successful author, but also a Psychologist with a Master's Degree.

Books by these authors can be purchased at one third their regular price - on Amazon.com as well as other websites.

From Anatta, an R.N. with a Master's Degree (minor was Psychology).

Happy Holidays to you.

I think that help only works when you want it to. A person can go through extensive therapy but have no positive results and on the other hand, a person can just talk to a guy at a bus stop and find the advice he has been given, make "the difference"
