If Hitler or Stalin were alive today, right infront of you, would you support their death of penatly? Before you voice your opinion, let me voice mine - I don't support it. Not because I feel sorry for Hitler or Stalin, but think about it, does revenge ever bring anything good? Let's say we shoot Hitler/Stalin, do we get a better world? No. Do those dead arise? No. Do we protect ourselves from future dictators? No. So whats the point? Vengeance? Mind I remind you that because of vengeance hunderds of people die in Palestine? Using the same philosophy death-penalty supporters use, which is "When someone kills someone innocent, he should be killed". Dont the shiites and sunnites use the same philosophy? Take for an example the killing of shiite colonel's 3 children. The chain of revenge will start and since each side stands on revenging the other, the conflict will never end. Same thing is applied to death-penalty for me. I'd never endorse using the same princles as those who are judged

Also, considering that I'm an atheist, killing of a person is actually considered freeing him. I'd rather know that he is in jail, where he can actually think of what crimes he has conceived, rather than killing him and freeing him from the responsibilty.

People in society need to see that there is a punishment for this and most people fear death. This helps to deter most criminals.

I didn't take the time to read your whole question, however...

1) you said it didn't bring back the dead. Neither does keeping them alive, scaring, even if irrationally, people all over the world that they could escape.

2) you said that the death penalty was 'revenge.' It is not revenge, it is just punishment. You would ground your child if he/she stole your clothes or whatever! It's not revenge, it's just punishment for a crime.

3) you said it didn't get a better world. Do you think Hitler and Stalin didn't have LOYAL FOLLOWERS? Those people could have still been out there, waiting for opportunities to 'regain their leader' or 'follow their leaders principles' and follow out their evil. At least if the leader is dead, these followers are GREATLY discouraged and even beaten. Kill the shepherd and the sheep disperse.

4) don't try to use examples from the middle-east as a claim that the death penalty is wrong. Totally irrelevant.

5) i'm sure you said something else that I didn't read, but I'll make it clear for you to understand- In many cases, especially with Hitler and Stalin, I do support the death penalty. God Bless.

I'm not particularly for the death penalty. But without it, all the rapists, murderers, child molesters and the likes can ruin as many lives as possible and then live contently locked up thereafter. What about the people victimized by the aforementioned?
Since obviously they were not 'protected' by the system, some action must be taken. They should get closure. Death is still feared by many, and is possibly the only thing that will make future-convicts think twice. So in cases like this, I think the death penalty is required.

I am a christian, and in Numbers 35:30-34 states, All murderers must be put to death. It does say that you need two witnesses to be able to do this. It goes on to say that this will ensure the land where you live will not be polluted, for murderers pollute the land.

Therefore, I believe that yes, murderers should be put to death.

Prisons are overcrowded and I personally don't like my tax money going to feed and house a criminal. I totally suppor the death penalty.

There's a difference between punishment and vengeance.

Okay, so we need to torture them for as long as they live? Because they had no right to play God and end someones life. So they deserve to die, too.
