...or do you watch the film then read the book?

I prefer to read the book then watch the film as I like to have my own ideas about how the characters or how certain scenes would look before I see someone else's interpretation.

I, like you, prefer to read the book first.
It was seeing the film PAPILLON that inspired me to read the actual story. I was really blown away at how much more was in the book than could be represented in the film. Now, if there's a film I want to see, I'll try to read the book first. I enjoy knowing the author's (creator's) intention first.
I read Eragon, and just saw the film... thankfully justice was done to Saphira's personality and demeanor. They did right with her dignity and flying as well.

I prefer to read the book then watch the film. Although, a lot of times I'm disappointed, but it's a lot more fun to imagine all the scenes and characters and then see what the director of the film interprets the book as. If I watch the film first reading the book seems kind of redundant to me... and there's not much room for imagination ;)

I like to watch the film, and then read the book. So I am not disappointed if they don't make the movie just like the book. There will always be adaptations from the book to the movie, so it is worth reading the book before or after or both.

I generally read te book first then watch the film. That's led to disappointment sometimes especially with Flags of our Fathers. I read the Harry Potter books before the movies.

When ever I can. I used to a lot in the past, until nobody wanted to go see movies with me because I just keep going on and on about how much better the book was etc.

Most recently, I read the devil wears prada, then saw the movie and they cut out a lot and completely changed the ending. I liked the book better, but the movie was pretty good.

I agree completely!!! I want to have my own images of the characters, not the actors faces. Finally, at the age of 25, I have decided to read the Harry Potter books. I refuse to watch the movies until I have read all of the books!!

I usually like to read the book first, then watch the movie, (if they make one), but there are times when I have seen a good movie and it encouraged me to read the book. So I guess I do both.

No. That would ruin the film. But there are a few books I read that I wished would be made into movies.

what ever i can get my hands on first

books have a thought in behind and at times its difficult to put that thought in movies...

guess so people are cruel on movies saying they dont live up to the book

but LOTR all three parts were done nicely even when i might say book is better

book has lot more passion which i feel comes from words .... when you read those words its upto you how much passion ur feelings to it generates.... this might not happen to movie as it depicts the passion of the people who made the movie

Sincity was done amazingly well
