Most of their commercials show a man a woman with the man appearing to be totally incompetent. It's clear to me they are catering to the female customers, but I believe that most sales are to men. Anyone else offended by this?

try not to be to offended. i never thought about it until you pointed it out, but you are right. maybe they are thinking that men will go in there without marketing strategies, but women would not. i think that you are right in thinking that these commercials are directed toward women. it is an ongoing joke that women think that men are dumb. not that they really are and i know there are alot of men that are really intelligent. this question reminds me of the geico caveman commercials.

Men are going to shop there no matter what the commercials say because Home Depot sells what they're trying to buy, and that's a good enough reason to shop there. Women, however, seem to need to be lured in (or at least that's what their advertising department seems to think) to shop.

Sadly, this is where society is right now. If you notice, this is the case in more commecials than not. A husband and wife are cleaning something, or fixing something, or cooking something, helpless man uses product A with no luck until woman comes to his rescue with product B. It's become pretty standard. I feel it's just a case of society's pendulum swinging a little bit too far the other way.

It's along the same lines as watching a woman dance while she dusts or women racing vacuum cleaners.
They are suppose to be funny but in reality they are saying their target consumers are stupid and incompetent.
Marketing is such a manipulative arena.

They are trying to increase their lesbian market share. It's no different than any TV "comedy," from the Simpsons to that 70s show, all of which now show Dad as a doofus.

ummmmmm, brace your self..........shocking news here......not all men are inclined to fix things, just because they are men, doesn't mean they can fix what is broken. And yes women can fix a lot of things. I put brakes on my car, fix the disposal and assemble furniture myself. I think it is more than fine to break the stereotypes. Of course this is coming from a woman.....so what do you expect.
