Alum.......tie alum with thread and stir it for one or two minutes, in water ,mud will surely settle down tried many times.

baba and Zubed... are right! Its Alum. Alum coagulates the mud particles and make them settle down at the bottom of the container. It becomes easier to separate water from particle through normal filtration.
