Because Marriage is a Government right, not a Christian right. Marriage has NOTHING to do with Christianity even though alot of people marry in church, ALL YOUR MARRIAGE RIGHTS come from the State and Federal Government. Since this is so, the Government is REQUIRED TO TREAT all citizens fairly and equally. This is where they get into trouble if they don't allow gay marriage. Many states have adopted laws in their constitutions banning gay marriage, but give it time, 10-15 years and we'll have defeated most of those, legally.

They first answer is b*u*l*l*s*h*i*t. There is no way one person can honestly say the marriage is about love and not gender.Sexual orientation, behaviour, and self-identification are not necessarily aligned in a clear-cut fashion for a given individual. Most people consider gay and homosexual to be synonyms. This is how, in fact, the Oxford English Dictionary defines it. However, some consider gay to be a matter of self-identification, while homosexual refers to sexual orientation. If a person has had same-sex sexual encounters but does not self-identify as gay, terms such as 'closeted', 'discreet', or 'bi-curious' may be applied. Conversely, a person may identify as gay without engaging in homosexual sex. Possible choices include identifying as gay socially while choosing to be celibate or while anticipating a first homosexual experience. Further, a bisexual person can also identify as "gay" but others might consider gay and bisexual to be mutually exclusive. There are some who are drawn to the same-sex and may not have sex and also not identify as gay, these could have the term 'asexual' applied even though an 'asexual' generally can mean no attraction and includes heterosexual attraction that is not sufficient to engage in sex or where the sex act is not desirable even though titillation may occur. Finally, there are some who may want to identify as gay that are not technically gay but have some event in their life or gender transformation or who otherwise feel they fit in no other identity. Christians among other reliogions know that in the bible God says off quote that and man and woman pass down generations. Note that while Gay applies to men and women equally, the term lesbian is gender-specific: it is used exclusively to describe homosexual women. There is no corresponding word for gay men. I'm not going to preach or anything but that is not true at all.

Well, much of the Western/1st world is letting gay people get married. Why shouldn't they?

We fought for freedom of religion. That is freedom of ALL religion. So the Southern Baptists and Roman Catholics shouldn't be and won't be forced to have gay marriage in their churches -- but the United Church of Christ, the Unitarians, most Episcopalians and so forth -- who SUPPORT gay marriage will be able to have the cermonies that they support in their own churches.

So freedom of BOTH sides will be preserved.

As it should be.

I have always believed people marry cause they love each other. It has nothing to do with gender. Who you fall in love with is because you care about the person a lot and want to spent your life with that person.

Very few states are allowing it. However, countries like Canada, the Netherlands, South Africa, etc. allow gay marriage.

They're not. In the states it is legal it is not recognized by the federal government. Just like medical marijuana laws are not. Our federal government is entirely too powerful, and it's not supposed to be.
