No, making treaties with India is an important and smart thing to do.

First, it recognizes that they are an up & coming player in the world, economically, militarily and culturally. They also are in a very strategic geographic location, between the communists in China and the Islamists in the middle east.

Second, they are an emerging democratic nation and embrace much of the same values that the West does.

Third, why should we not make allies with them? I'd rather ally with them than the bloody commies or the bloody Islamists that we do.
