the Ave (blue hill) can get crazy, but i think its fun...very diverse with a lot of jamaican and haitian....grove hall in The Rox (roxbury) and also fields corner in the DOT (dorchester) can get wild....JP (jamaica plain) has been gentrified, its worst days are over....same as southie, even though it still has some rough PJs (like old colony)....it is really a hit and miss city...you will notice the action level pick up in the dangerous areas.... i LOVE the BEAN... dont knock my spots!!!

I grew up in NYC and have lived in Boston for over 30 years. Boston is perhaps for it's size one of the safest city's in the United States. Statistically ,Dorchester at Blue Hill Ave, and Fields Corner, Mattapan, Roxbury and Mission Hill have the highest rate of violent crime. Much of it associated with gang related activity. Jamaica Plain can also be spotty around the Pond. Allston and Brighton have a high rate of Auto Theft and Burglary due to the fact that those neighborhoods are comprised of mainly students. The North End, Charlestown and the South End have generally been portrayed as tough area for organized crime but much of these area has been gentrified since the late 1980’s and there really isn’t much of an issue anymore. These neighborhoods are no linger working or middle class and generally are occupied by yuppie professionals. The Back Bay and Beacon Hill , Financial District, Longwood and Fenway North of Huntington Ave are all good today. The South End is only bad within 5 or so blocks of the Expressway and Albany street. West Roxbury is very safe as is much of Hyde Park and parts of Roslindale. Bottom line it’s a city and you need to take care no matter where you are as all neighborhoods have occasional murders and violent crime bit for a city of nearly 700,000 its really fairly safe.

i does no longer walk on my own in ANY unfamiliar city at nighttime. i think of that's trouble-free experience. Dorchester does have secure areas, yet for the reason which you're no longer from right here, keeping off Dorchester altogether is a sturdy theory. the comparable could be mentioned for Roxbury. that's not in basic terms "minority" neighborhoods that have this concern after dark. i does no longer step foot in Southie (to no longer be perplexed with the South end) if I had a tan. maximum folk in Boston will flow away you on my own.

Southie isn't bad, it's just middle class, not rich like a lot of Boston.

Dorchester, Mattapan (it's nicknamed Murderpan for a reason), Allston, parts of Brighton, parts of Roxbury. Some people say East Boston, but it's like Southie, just middle or working class and not unsafe.

Having lived there and a brother who owns a gas station....
I'd have to say Mattapan, Roxbury, parts of Dorchester like Dorchester Ave. (Nahant area is still pretty ok), steer clear of Franklin Park, Blue Hill Ave. and Forest Hills. Southie used
to one of the safest, but haven't been there in years so no clue.

If you mean the most dangerous and crime-ridden, Dorchester, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Chinatown isn´t too safe either, especially at night.
