How concerned should I be? I called the OB nurse, and she prescribed a bland/liquid diet for a day or two. She asked me if the baby is still moving, but I haven't felt him/her move for the first time yet. She agreed that it's still pretty early for that, but.. the fact that she would ask after the baby kind of implies that it might be hurting the baby? Can anyone offer advise?

Its amazing what those little things inside us can stand up against. When i was 7 weeks pergnant i broke out in hives that covered EVERY inch of my body and was throwing up uncontroablly, along with being severly dehydrated. I spent 2 days in the hospital, and 33 weeks later on the due date gave birth to a healthy baby boy. My point, im sure youll be just fine.

The biggest concern with viral infections before you are 20 weeks is fever.

Fetal movement is just a nice way to monitor if the baby is for some reason in distress. It doesnt mean that something is wrong, it would just give you a way to reassure yourself, "the baby is still moving so everything must be fine". Helps keep you calm.

If your flu becomes violent or severe, you will want to call your OB back (especially if you have a fever that you cannot keept down with tylenol below 100-101.) And see if you are able to be treated with an anti-viral vaccine. These are not always available, and they honestly havent been proven to work, but they do show signs of helping in some cases.

If you had you flu shot this year, as most pregnant woman have, then its unlikely at all that you will have more than just a mild cold-like flu.

use nasal spray, rest a lot, eat liquidy foods like soup, drink water, and monitor your fever.

Your body is designed to withstand a certain amount of sickness and infection while pregnant without it effecting the baby.

Strep, mumps, fevers (scarlette and rhumatic), things like these are very dangerous and require immediate attention during any stage of yoru pregnancy, since severe birth defects are associated with them.

The typical flu, not so much. Just be smart. if you feel like you're too sick, or too fevery, go on in to the er.

There is nothing wrong with the baby. When I got the flu while pregnant, the doctor said you are sick not the baby. So don't over medivcate yourself but get relief. Take whatever the doctor says is ok. Take a steamy shower, drink lots of liquids and soup. Rest. You'll be fine. P.S. Your baby could be small yet and remember, the kicking starts at around 20 weeks. Trust me it will be beating you up all night long in no time. Good luck.

i think she was asking that because most of the time you have a high temp with the flu and that can hurt the baby. i would try not the stress about it cause that can cause harm to your baby too. so just focus on getting better. get well soon!

You just need to wait it out...you don't need to change your diet. Ther eis no harm to the baby. Just don't take any emdications except tylenol.

there is nothing to worry about. I got bronchitis with my son and couldn't eat, only drink, was vomiting and had the runs and he was okay.
