Cold air intakes could only help a car, but it helps some cars more than others depending on the engineering of the factory air intake. If the factory is designed poorly, you will see noticeable gains in performance, if designed well from the start, minimal gains would be seen but should still help the car breathe better regardless.

A factory intake is normally placed very close to the engine bay, therefore taking in heated air (warmer air is less dense so will result in a weaker detonation in the engine) to be used for combustion. A cold air intake is located further from the engine bay where the air is cooler and denser therefore causing a stronger detonation. It will improve performance and improve your gas mileage at the same time (although very slightly). For the price, it is a worthwhile modification to your vehicle. Depending on brand it will also add a throatier growl to your engine, not loud like a aftermarket performance exhaust but commonly a sweeter sound than stock.

I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z and I installed a cool air intake in my car, what it does is force cool air into the engine so the engine does not get to hot which aids the car in having more horsepower. They really do work well as long as you buy a good intake system. I have added 12-15 horse to my car, it may not seem like alot but you do feel it!

The more air you can jam into your cylinders the more efficient your engine will run and the more power you will get out of it.

That is the whole concept that makes turbochargers work (they pump air into the carb.) and why you see huge air scoops on formula and drag strip race cars.

Many new cars have scoops that duct air from the front of the car to the carb. for this reason.

Soooo... thats the long way around to simply say YES, cold, fresth air is better for your car then the hot fume filled air that lives under your hood.

ok?

cold air is denser air, thus containing more oxygen for combustion. you should have more power with cold air and potentially better mileage.

though, if it's sitting in the really cold air (ie snow or ice), let the engine idle for a few minutes to warm up.

only if you want more power and better fuel milage, it helps your car breathe better more air flow and if you plan on keeping the car a long time it will pay for itself in just the cost of stock air filter replacement

yeah, and to put spacers to pop your hood in the rear, like under the screws that hold it in, so the hood is angled and the hot air excapes from the rear, so you have a flow of ait instead of hot air in your engine

yes because it has more oxygen in it. some drag racers make a cool can, where they cool the fuel with dry ice. same effect

cold air contains less moisture - more oxygen -- lovely!!!
