you can buy acrylic tongue rings...they are supposed to be easier on your teeth....they also have things called "stoppers" which are rubber...they are something you use when yo dont want anyone to know your tongue is pierced....the top is flat like a nail and it is flesh colored ( i personally hated them because i chewed through the rubber and broke it)....i hated the feeling of the acrylic, but if you are worried about chipping your teeth (which i have 2 chips in my front teeth from years of wearing my tongue ring), i would suggest looking into one

Not heard of rubber but i have a plastic one, i had to get it to wear when i had a couple of operations, no metal allowed of course.
Also after seven years i've never chipped or cracked a tooth! what are you doing with it to get that kind of damage!?
