We can blame music, video games, weapons...
I believe that parents should pay attention to their kid's activities.
I don't let my nephew play a M rated video game because he's not 17.

Your last statement is a bit jaded. Only ADULTS are responsible for themselves & if they have children, then they are also responsible for those children. If parents want to raise their children to become responsible adults & good citizens, then they need some type of a way to assist them in doing so. A rating system is a quick reference guide to assist the parents in raising their children in a manner which suits their personal needs & beliefs. Even liberals need help in this area. It doesn't mean the music is censored...it just gives the buyer, user, listener, a heads up as to what the CONTENT MAY be! Different strokes 4 different folks. Some parents don't have the time or the stamina to actually listen to the music, so they foolishly rely in the rating system. Music doesn't make anyoone do anything. It's the LYRICS (words) which can be a problem for children that have been brought up in environments where the caregivers have NO CLUE what's really happening in the world outside of their own communities & homes. It's those small town kids who are most "at risk" to become the next Victims or Predators, just by listening to music that contained words with multiple meanings!

Which conservatives wanted to do this? Conservatives merely made the point that some forms of music are so nihilistic as to shape the mentality and views of teens. The Columbine lunatics were no exception to this.
But exactly who was calling for "censorship" or is mere criticism of the Holy Music Industry now the same as "censorship"?
________
Good point, Black Gunman and Yup. Ever since Tipper Gore went crusading against rappers who cuss too much, now every other album has some moronic sticker on the CD case (or on the album cover itself!).
Meanwhile, it took years to get ratings on video games which graphically involve murder, dismemberment, etc.
But look out for those bad words!

You are not my cousin but a child to day! What do you think about Al 'Gor He was so vicious than he do hire Mrs Levinsky knowing that Clinton liked the juicy beverage and the cigar. He knew too that the deep religious and parjure french word? lobby from the mayflower will not forgive him to betray his wife and was hoping a procedure for empeachement and he would be able to be president. A scenario better than by cecil B de Mille with ben Hour race. Sorry you have to read twice because American is not my first langage and we like to speak under the words

Too young to remember Tipper Gore, I guess. Yep, that's right - Al's wife, the Tipster, wanted to censor music in the 80s.

Research shows that it was Tipper Gore, wife of Global Al that fought to ban music. BTW they are liberals. I have not seen nor heard of any "Conservative" banning any music.

You mean Tipper Gore and her hubby Al who led this crusade in the '80s? I was quite sure they were liberals.

I have no idea what conservatives are thinking. (Hah, thinking!)
Violent video games do not cause violence nearly as much as our military. The military attitude that "It'll be fun to blow things up!" is what causes things like columbine and other violence.
AHHHHHH!!!! I just noticed that somebody put a link to the libertarian party. They're insane. They want total private ownership of everything (roads, utilities, sidewalks, everything!) Which would lead to rich people buying the utilities and dictating people's lives. "Go work in x or y place or I'll turn off your water." It would be a lead in to feudalism and complete breakdown of our society.
Now that I'm done with my rant, I need to say that although they are insane, I do agree that what we're doing now is not working. It's just that their solution doesn't work.
