Loved it. It was actually nominated for seven academy awards, but Forest Gump dominated(unfairly) that year. Tim Robbins is great, see him in The Secret Life of Words. The same guy (Frank Darabont) made The Green Mile and The Majestic, which you should see if you liked shawshank. He's also remaking Fahrenheit 451 - don't know how that will turn out.

The best way to watch this movie is with no expectations. No clue of what it's about. I did and am eternally grateful that no one violated the movie for me by discussing the plot.

Did you know Frank Darabont had only directed 2 movies and both were Best Picture Oscar nominees and Stephen King adaptations? The other is The Green Mile.

Of the handful of movies I've liked that are adapted from stories by Stephen King, this one ranks very high. It's a solid story with a convincing cast. Also in this group would be Stand By Me, Misery and Dolores Claiborne.

That movie was really good, but the story comes from Stephen King's "Different Seasons" (1982) book of short storys. I highly recommend reading the story because it's even better then the movie adaptation!

Ya know everytime it comes on I find myself watching it.

For some reason I just like the movie. I dont know if it is the way it was told, or how Morgan Freeman narrates it or what. But even though I know Andy escapes when he is standing in the rain with his hands in teh air, I still get excited. Like proud that he made it out of that horrible place.

If you are someone who thinks Shawshank or Raising Arizona are not amazing movies, you are not someone I want to talk to.

A buddy of mine in college and I had this discussion one night in which we mad a pact to never date women who didn't like either of these movies.
The first time I went on a date with this one gal, she had a copy of Arizona on here bookshelf. We got married last June.

Yes. the message I liked is that hope exists and is played out in the worst of circumstances in the most positive way that is universal to all the world.

Love that movie! That is one of the few movies that I have seen over and over and still love to watch it. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are awesome actors and they did an awesome job in that movie!! 8-)

I liked it because it is an interesting story and has a happy ending. I was glad to see Andy and Red get together in the end.
