The Ashes series is currently played nominally biennially, alternately in England and Australia. However since cricket is a summer game, the venues being in opposite hemispheres means the break between series is alternately 18 months and 30 months. The last Ashes series was played in 2005.

I agree absolutely. It's our game, we should get to make the rules up as we go along. In future when (if) England win The Ashes, we should wait at least 10 years before playing again, and then only in a season when all our major players are fit and in form. Oh and only in England. And the Australians should play blindfolded.

The contest is held in the summer every two years alternating between the UK and Australia. When England last won it in 2005 was summer here, but now its summer the two years later in Australia so they are playing again. The actual gap was 18 months as summer occurs at a different time of year in the southern hemisphere, but now you have to wait 30 months for the next contest!
Hope that helps, check out the link below for more info!

Cricket is a summer game but because the seasons are reversed in Australia the Ashes have to be played quite quickly after they have visited England.

We play every 4 years here, every 4 years in Oz. Therefore the gap is always 1.5 or 2.5 years. This time it was 1.5 years.
So it's not particularly soon.
