If it is freshly pumped, then no. You can refrigerate any remaining.

If you have warmed the bottle, then yes, you should discard it. You don't want to heat, then cool, then reheat bm.

However, you can keep the bottle of warmed breast milk out for 4 hrs.

Breastmilk and formula are different substances, so different rules apply. Breastmilk contains antibodies, formula does not. The antibodies in the breastmilk will fight off any bacteria that entered the milk through baby's saliva.

Breastmilk can safely stand at room temperature for 6 to 8 hours and need not be discarded if the first feeding attempt is incomplete. (In contrast, formula must be refrigerated and discarded after the first feeding attempt because it contains no antibodies or infection protection factors.)

Doctors will say yes, but breast milk is NOT dairy... you are not a cow. If your baby doesnt finish it, stick it in the fridge until the next feeding, then warm it with warm water. It won't do any harm. I have 2 kids and have NEVER experienced anything negative by doing this. Just don't save the milk for too long.

I agree that with careful handling, it is OK to use it up at the next feeding. Use it first, don't mix with anything. Breast milk is too precious to waste.
