My wife and I had a reception, but no dinner. Our wedding was at 1:00PM and our reception at the Church. If they have a cake and coffee with no alcohol, they can keep the budget down and have a great reception.
We also had friends from the Church play the piano. Our Church has a very nice gathering place in the Church.
Take care,
Troy

Try something like following the wedding a private reception will be held at cake & drinks. The couple asks that in leiu of a reception that all monetary donations will go for a down payment on their first house. Good Luck!

I'd just put that in the wedding invitation. Just a short line saying "No Reception afterwards" or something along those lines. Those few people you want at the cake and drinks, handwrite a note. It will make it even more special for them.

I'd write a little note something to the point of..."Receiving line to follow the ceremony. Due to financial issues there will be no reception but monetary gifts to help pay for a honeymoon or down payment would be greatly appreciated." Something like that, I think would be good, kinda like the little notes that are added for people to r.s.v.p. for receptions that type little note. You never know some people may get together and make it a gift to the couple. That's what my reception was--a gift from my sis-in-law to be

Hello...:)
You simply announce the Date and time of the service, and make no mention of the reception.
For those you would like to invite for Cake and drinks, include a small card with those details.....
Namaste,
--Tom

I think they have specific invitaiton cards for this. It is common.
If you don't find the card, try this:
You are cordially invited to my son's wedding.
It will be held promply at one in the afternoon.
Please RSVP so we may reserve your seating.
By the way, there won't be a reception.
