It depends on my relationship with this relative and how much I knew about them.

There is many places you could spread them if the deceased didn't say what they wanted you to do then think up a place where they would like you to spread the ashes, You should take your time and leave them in the container or earn until you decide there is no time limit or you many people just keep them in that container for ever to have with them.

Different traditions, different ideas. Most feel they should be put into the ground (a plot) with other relatives. Some cemeteries have formed garden settings where ashes can be spread.

Depends on if the dead relative has closer relatives than you..
If so, then give them to that relative

If not and there were no instructions given, I'd spread them in a river or the ocean

It depends on who it was. Some may have wanted their ashes to be spread somewhere, some may have wanted to remain with the family inside of an urn.

did yu ask for them? If they had any special place they liked to visit often yu could spread them there, keep them on the mantle or bury them. Cemetery's will put ashes on top of other loved ones graves. in other words, they will bury them on top of someone else.

I kept my father's ashes under my bed for over year. Then I spread them near a lake in the woods...per his request. There are times when I wish he was still under my bed.

My mother put her brother's ashes in a dresser drawer. It is kind of creepy.
She bought him a cemetary plot complete with a headstone...but keeps the ashes in her dresser. She said she wanted to keep them in case his children wanted them...heck, he has been dead 15 years, I don't think anyone is coming around for them
