My baby had her 1st immunization shots Friday 12/15/06 (she also turned 2 months that same day) and she did very, very good. I mean, she didn't cry for that long when she got her shots. I've been giving her pain meds every 4 1/2 to 5 hours or as needed. If I notice her legs are bothering her. Anyways.....I know babies hit milestones all the time, but i've been noticing that she has been turning her head (almost like rooting) when i feed her. She does it especially when I feed her almost to the point that it is hard to feed her. I don't know if it has anything to do w/the shots, I never noticed it prior the shots that is why I am associating it w/the shots. I read that babies who do that rooting thing, they turn their heads to the side. Well, she did it before, but ever since Friday (her shots) she has been doing it non-stop. Then I was thinking maybe she has an ear ache or something and that is why she is turning in that direction, because of pain. Any thoughts on what it is?

I don't know if this is it or not, but my daughter was the same way. I don't believe that it had anything to do with the shots. I realized that my daugher was doing that when she was distracted. I started taking her into a quiet room (no TV or younger children) and I speak to her in a calm, soothing voice. Since there was nothing in there to take her attention from me and she recognizes the sound of my voice, she did a lot better. Maybe she's just getting a little older now and she is curious of all the noises and things going on around her.

I'm guessing if rooting is a problem then you are bottle feeding... If I am wrong, I am sorry. I breastfeed and my baby turns his head to the side and it isn't a problem I just change his position, however for a bottle you need to have the bottle at a certain angle.

She is probably just needing extra comfort. Try having more skin to skin contact with her. Try when you are feeding her you topless (or just wearing a bra) and her just in a diaper. Or if it still intereferes with feeding try doing it before the feeding and then giving her the bottle.

If she had shots on Friday she doesn't still need to be on pain medications.

The rooting and shots are probably just a coincidence.
