Fragmented files are files that are just spread throughout the drive instead of being in one spot. They are probably files that you need, so don't delete them.

Hi
when you defragment a hard disk the files are no longer fragmented and don’t need to be repaired.

when windows is writing to the disk it just puts the files where it can find the space. if it finds a space in the middle of the disk which can take half the file , and a space on the outside of the disk which can take the other half of the file, windows fragments the file into 2 peaces and stores 1 peace in the middle and the other peace on the outside of the disk.

what the disk defragmenter does is takes these peaces of the files and stores them near each other. Now why the computer could not do that in the first place is a question for bill gates.!

When you defrag your hard drive, the system takes all the fragmented files and reorganizes them making the files less fragmented.
When your computer saves files onto the hard drive, it sometimes will break up a single file and save it in different locations on the hard drive...causing your files to be fragmented.
The defragmentation process takes all the fragmented files and puts them back together, making the files faster to access, and your computer will run a bit better.

The fragmented files do not need to be repaired or deleted because the defrag process essentially does this for you. (You really can't get access to the fragmented files anyway...the computer will hide their presence from you)

Hope this helps.

The defragging process does the repairing. They are not defective, just arranged inconveniently on the hard drive. If all the parts of a file were laid out so they could easily be accessed the machine would get their data more quickly. The defragger moves the pieces to accomplish that

The process of de-fragmentation does do what is necessary to delete bad stuff, repair good stuff...

But, the entire problem is limited to the half dozen Operating Systems of Microsoft.

The OTHER 811 Operating Systems do not fragment!
They are also secure, safe, virus proof and run upto 50X faster than Microsoft on the same hardware!

I take abandoned computers and grab a copy of http://pclinuxos.com to run them, for FREE! Includes 5500 games, programs, suites, browsers.
