We had our office Christmas party on Friday, December 1st. My boss gave me a beautiful floor plant in a large ceramic pot. The plant is as tall as I am and probably weights 75 lbs. or more. I commute to/from work via bus and train. My round trip travel time per day is about 4 hours. I moved the plant in back of my desk and love looking at it every day when I'm at work. Finally the other day, my boss took me aside and asked me if I liked the plant. I told him I loved it. Then he asked if I loved it so much, why hadn't I brought it home. Hello? How am I supposed to carry something this big and heavy on public transportation? My boss knows how I commute into work. I don't drive so bringing my car into work one day to get the plant is not an option. Has anyone else out there experienced anything like this?

Some people just don't have the talent for picking out appropriate gifts....and some don't care enough to bother. That is unrealistic of your boss to expect you to take something that big home on the bus and train.

I can't say that I have experienced anything like this but I really think your boss thought that he was getting something that you would really like. The thought of how you get to and from work probably never crossed his mind. I really think he WAS using his head when he got you this for a gift. Maybe one day you could bring in your car to work and bring it home or just tell your boss that you would like to keep it at work so others can enjoy looking at it as well as you do everyday at work.

I really think Christmas isn't all about what you recieve as gifts. It really is the thought that he put behind that gift. Just be thankful that he remembered you this holiday. Would you have reacted the same way if your boss didn't get you anything for Christmas?

People usually buy to others what they would like to have. So your boss bought you something he/she wanted and had imagined having this plant at home so it was only natural/normal in her/his mind that it suppose to be there.

Nothing I have experienced compares to that....that is wonderful.

People give me sugary food all the time and I shouldn't eat it. When I was in rehab, they gave everyone mugs filled with hard candy, even the diabetics!

i think they are thinking more with their wallet.

You should have told him that you can't take it home on a train... regardless it was nice of him to do that for you... one should be thankfull for any gift they get.
