I don't think Dean really believes in nothing but chaos. He seems interesting from what I've perused, because he takes Hume's skepticism to new levels by applying it to people like Quine and Buddhism, and every generation needs a good skeptic to hack away at our presumptions.

Nonetheless, it's doubtful he sincerely believes in pure chaos. Nihilists don't truly believe in complete nothingness -- nothingness has no essence, but someone trying to believe in nothingness places that essence in nothingness through their act of believing in it -- they believe in the categorical rejection of all views through pure skepticism. To say nihilists believe in "nothing" is to make a category mistake (that even nihilists don't claim to make). Whoever says Dean believes in nothing but chaos seems to be making an ad hominem criticism. Rather, Dean argues from a standpoint where no established values of "truth" or "untruth" are accepted.

You can read one thing in one book, and read the exact opposite in another. Go by what you know and what you experience, not a book, most of the time, its just someones opinion
