It is actually a common fact that Singaporeans suffer from Myopia at a young age.
That is why our government has to come up with tv commercials guiding the kids how to relax their eyes during their studying time or when playing pc games. They must remember to spend 10 - 15 mins seeing far greeneries (trees or plants) for about 3 - 6 m ahead. And repeat this process for each 1/2 or 1 hr's time.
Even our NS (National Service) army guys also have the same problem, 30 - 40% of them suffer from myopia during their army service. And it has actually become a major issue in Singapore and it is still on the increasing number currently. But our government has been trying their best to educate young people about how to protect their eyes through many methods.

Go sit right in front of the TV screen and watch TV to find out why. Or play some Maplestory or Runescape or whatever for a long time. Or read a lot. That's what some kids do.
The reason I wear glasses is all of the above.

Probably because Singaporean kids spend much of their time with indoor activities like schoolwork, instead of doing sports. They also spend too much time before video appliances, playing console games, computers or watching TV. Reading habits are also rather unhealthy. However, the local Chinese, like urban Chinese and Koreans, tend to be genetically inclined to short-sightedness.

singaporean children tend to stay indoors to either watch TV, play computer games or do homework. outdoor activities for young kids are not very common, if not, frowned upon by parents who would orefer their kids at home studying. all these indoor activities are not very eye-friendly too.
