That's not necessarily true. A mother who doesn't work outside the home DOES have a job--she's a mother. I'm a stay-at-home mom, and I spend my days working far harder than my husband, who has a 9-5 job. My day starts when the kids get up, and ends long after they're down for the night.
My daughter, on the other hand, wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She knows women have careers, too. Just because mommy stays home to do laundry and raise the kids, doesn't mean daughter will grow up with no goals or aspirations.
