...when you see the word 'Britain', what do you see?
Do you see little country villages and thatched roofs and rose gardens or the Thames and Buckingham Palace?
I have always wondered, don't know why!!

I see us. By that I mean, here in the USA we have large cities, small cities, quaint towns & villages, etc... Our country is urban, suburban, and rural. I think of your country in the same way.

When i hear the word "Britain", I think of a small place with very confusing streets. I think of Buckingham Palace and the queen of England. I think of all the houses being the same with some color to made the stand out. i think of "Big Ben". I think of the history of Britain, and the fact it is really old.

I think of the Celts when I hear the word 'Britain' (i.e. - Boudicca, King Arthur, Vortigern, etc)
The descriptions you gave (thatched roofs, rose gardem, buckingham) come to my mind when I hear the word 'England'.

My Britain

Cornish pasties, Devon cream,Yorkshire pudding, Suffolk bream
Scottish whisky, Cheddar Cheese, Lancashire hot-pot, Earl Grey teas

West Country scrumpy, Shepherd’s Pie, Blackberry crumble, Drambuie from Skye

Kentish apples, tomatoes from Jersey, salmon in rivers (not the Mersey)

Cumberland sausages, Dover sole, Bakewell tarts, toad-in-the-hole,

Welsh Bara Brith, English booze, Scottish smokies, Irish stews

Whitby crab, Lamberhurst wine, Kate and Sydney, cockney rhyme,

Hereford Cider, Worcester sauce, fish and chips, Ramsden of course

Ploughman’s lunch, a pair of kippers, mussels, cockles, whelks, crab’s nippers.

Eat it once, forever smitten, it’s the food and drink that puts Great in Britain

i look at britian as a country that is very well mannered and has a stronger economy than we do....look at the value of a pound versus an american dollar....but for some reason americans seem to have better teeth though

Of all the pictures and whatnot I've seen of England I picture the green rolling hills because I think it's very beautiful.

I see ravaging tea-drinking conquerors who took over half the world for Queen and country.

Yeah, and Big Ben. It's like America with a more aged culture, that's the way I think of it.

The Union Jack, actually. "England" conjures the images you described, but "Britain" conjures the flag and the Empire.

It's the same thing with Ireland, they see people with red hair, leprechauns, fighting mobs, coppers and priests.
