The upper classes were able to afford anything they wanted to drink. Vodka was originally made from potatoes so people were able to make it cheaply and it was consumed mainly by the proletariat.

Vodka honey and not by all social classes. The poor didn't drink as they could not afford to.

Do British drink tea all the time? Do french eat cheese and wear stipey tops and beret? Do Italians eat only pizza? Are all americans fat? Do all mexicans wear sombrero? No, of course not. Those all are just prejudices.
