On our news they did an interview with an officer that said this. if the suspect is in your house, you are free to defend your own life..however they must be in your house..they cannot be outside your front door or in your lawn..running away, etc.. therefore, if they are breaking in, it is better to let them break all the way in and shoot them in the living room than to shoot them half way in the door..because then you can get in trouble.I believe that once they pry the door open..fire away...I should not have to wait until they are inside my house and hope they don't fire first.

A cop once told me that if someone ever broke into my home, and I was forced to kill them in self-defense, that I had better make sure that at least one of their arms or legs was actually over the threshold of my front door. Laws vary from state to state, so, if you want an exact answer, I suggest you contact your local law enforcement to find out what your legal rights are in your area so far as defending your home, family, and property are, and how to make sure your weapon is legal, as well. You may be covered under the Second Amendment of the US Constitution - but maybe not. Things that seem obvious are not always so.

our constitution says you are the king of your castle so does the bible, but our great leaders have screwed up our laws so much it would be impossible to know what is legal or not a prosecutor who actually makes the decision as to wheather or not to prosecute a case might want another feather in his cap for a conviction to impress the idiots who will be voting when he runs for a higher position, can and sometimes will prosecute a case
knowing he can win this case because the defendant can't afford $100;000 for a good lawyer as O.J. did. and if some one was drunk he surely wouldn't break in a door or window to get in so if someone breaks into my house I will shoot the S,O,B, then haul him off to a ditch or some where way from y my house and dump him , as I damn sure don't want Togo to prison for something as stupid as having to kill some one to protect my family or home, also don't take a cops word for anything as he does not know any more about the law than you do.

If someone broke into my home they would eat buckshot!
someone drunk thinking it's their home would probably make a ruckus and i would know before they even entered.
In some states the law says that you can kill an intruder if you have no way out...such as a back door to flee out of.
I sleep upstairs so I have no way out.
If I heard an intruder downstairs i would dial 911 and wait for him at the top of my stairs with my shotgun.

You have a right to protect your home within the limits of the law. It is self defense if the proportions are equal. Otherwise, it's murder. For example, you cannot shoot an unarmed person, even if they entered your home unlawfully. That would constitute burglary, home invasion... things along those lines, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they came into your home with the intent to do physical harm to you or your family.

Wait a minute .On the surface it seems like you should be able to kill somebody to defend your home and family .But what if the intruder is drunk from a party in the neighborhood or he simply made a mistake and walked in to the wrong house ?

At least seriously hurt them!!
The reason why they do this stuff is because they figure you won't hurt them or if you do hurt them they can sue you which is seriously wrong!
btw a home invasion is not a drunk or a person at the wrong house.. that is serious meanness!

People should not have "thoughts" on this. It is simple to punch up your state laws and look it up, then you'll know for sure. In Washington State it is legal to use lethal force to protect yourself and home, also to stop a felon in the act (anywhere). None of that crap about "in fear for your life"... or "pull them inside."

Reasonable force can be used on anyone who has trespassed on your property and poses a legitimate threat. If a person has a weapon or threatens your life or your family's life in anyway, the killing would be justified.
