I hope so, I too was very saddened to hear they found "the body" of one of them, that sounds as bad as it gets......feel very sorry for the families, the amount of worry, and then to hear the "bad" news, and now right around the holidays, doubly sad.....

No, they're gone, it's too bad that the trio's extensive mountaineering experience couldn't save them from a week of blizzards and single-digit temperatures that hampered search teams on the mountain and in aircraft.
Two climbers missing on Mount Hood may have fallen on a steep slope on their way down Oregon's highest mountain, authorities said Monday as the search resumed on a clear day and a team prepared to retrieve the body of a third climber found dead in a snow cave.
Prayers go out to all family and friends.

well
this answer has a yes/no for me.
why i think they are....
randy knapp survived 17 days as a teenager with 2 other young teens on mt. hood. of course he was not as experienced as the 3 hikers stranded now. did mr. knapp just get lucky? maybe, BUT the only reason it is believed kelley james died was because of a possible injury. if the other 2 hikers are not injured, there is really no reason (with the right gear) that they could not set up in a snow cave and wait for rescue.
why i think no....
well for one, if the other 2 hikers were alive, with all of the helicopter/rescue activity going on, you would think that they would come to the surface, and try to make themselves known so the searchers could find them. the fact that their are multiple helicopters and a ton of foot patrol people on mt. hood just makes me weary as if to there is life on mt hood for the missing climbers.
there is a news conference @ noon on this day and maybe my answer will change after watching it.
last night a national guardsman said they found leads last night and will follow up on them today. so we'll see...

No they've been out there too long.
From watching the news it looked like a couple of them had a close call before and had to be rescued.
I'm sad for their families. But it also makes me mad that the taxpayer will pick up probably a million dollar bill trying to rescue people that could have stayed safe and warm at home.
That million dollars could have gone to feed hungry children, help seniors with their heating bills, or research to cure some disease.
For someone to take up a dangerous sport and then expect the taxpayer to pay for their stupidity angers me greatly.

And why would anybody go hiking at this time of the year in that part of the world? They knew, if they had any sense, the danger. Now, others put themselves at risk to find them. I would be a lot sadder if anything happened to any of the searchers. The hikers chose to do it, now the taxpayer foots the bill and others have to go out in the bad weather to try to save them from the results of their own folly.

The likelihood is pretty small after a couple of weeks unless they had some survival training and even then the weather factored in decreases a person's ability to survive in harsh conditions. In good weather a person can survive for quite a while in the wilderness (indefinitely if prepared..)

The rescuers need to strectch it out as long as they can. I am sure they are getting paid by the day. Check out some of them helicopters. I am sure some politician got some money invested there.

Possibly. That all depends on whether or not they endedup naked like the dead one. Or if they have in fact dug a 3rd cave on the MT.

I hope they are, but I don't think it's possible after that much exposure to such extreme elements.
