I think that there is all kinds of life on other planets, but as yet, we don't know what we're looking for, so we haven't found it. The life on other planets would have to be of an obviously extreme nature, since other planets have very extreme conditions. Therefore, until we are able to adequately understand what it would take to survive in those conditions, we couldn't possibly know what we we're looking for. Does that make sense?
As far as humanoid lifeforms, I believe that in the far reaches of space, they exist. I don't know if they are so advanced as everyone wants to label them. But if they are, then we are probably just a petri dish to them and that's why we haven't had extensive contact.
Then again, it may be that they are already here, but since they are so advanced, they are completely camoflauged or assimilated, so that we don't know it. Again, we may not know what we're supposed to be looking for.
If they aren't here, then it could be because we have nothing they want, or they can't get here from there.
When the first modern day reported sightings began, it was right after the Philadelphia experiment took place. I'm not going into an explanation of what it was (that's for the Net), but it involved a huge magnetic field and interruption of the space/time continuum. This might have been a big enough event (relative to the frontiers of space), to attract the attention of ET's. Since then, we have had numerous phases of the space program, and other countries have as well. Since we got noticed by them, they may be just monitoring to make sure we don't do anything totally stupid that will affect them.
Who knows though? It could be that we are the one lonely place in all of space that supports any life at all now. In the past there could have been others, but now they're gone, like the dinosaurs.

The human brain can't even begin to fathom how huge and diverse our universe is. I for one totally believe there is many different types of life forms out there. However I don't believe we have ever been visited by any "aliens" because the distances cannot be accomplished unless a species lives to be thousands and thousands of years old. As far as the Zeta Reticuli System I assume you are talking about Betty Hill's drawing of a star map that was not known and then discovered years later? Maybe there is life maybe not.

1. Maybe.
2. That is impossible to know with current technology, and so falls under the "maybe" in answer 1.

Zeta reticuli is about 39 light years away, close by galactic standards. Still, it would require near-light speed technology to travel there, which we simply do not have.

My personal belief is that maybe, since the Universe is made of basically the same materials all over. But there is no proof of such life elsewhere.

About UFO's, I'll quote Arthur C. Clarke:

"UFO's tell us absolutely nothing about intelligence elsewhere in the universe, but they do prove how rare it is on Earth".

I suggest you take a look at the Drake Equation, which deals about this, see link.

Blake,

Possibly a micro-organism or two, but on a
larger scale ... no. Life in space takes special conditions to sustain life. One thing is the tempature has to be within a certian median range to be able to maintain a cell structure, another is gravity. Too much of one and too little of another and you have disaster. check out the website for the search for extra-terrestial worlds.

Life else where!!! I hope so, because it would be an awful dull universe if there is not!! Whay have we not seen it? I belive it is because we are not ready for them to contact us! Life has many forms, A virus is life! Life is out there we just need to wait till they are ready to contact us!
