We are thinking of getting a 'Mountain Buggy' 3 wheeler for our newborn as we live in a rural area in Scotland and ( hope!) to use it for forest track walks and also understand they are good for children up to about 4 years old. However they are expensive (£500)....and I've heard quite cumbersome to manoeuvre.
Anyone any experience of any other 3 wheeler buggys which are good for off pavement as well as on? Have also looked at 'Phil and Teds' and 'Out and About' Nippers.

You don't need to spend £500 on a buggy. It's a huge waste of money anyway. Try eBay or second hand shops. I picked up an excellent condition 3 wheeler from eBay for £30. My honest opinion is that you should save your money and buy a sling instead for the time-being. Not a conventional one from Mothercare but a proper baby-wearing sling that is versatile and comfortable for both parent and baby. They are great for country walks and off-road because you can go virtually anywhere without having to worry about if the buggy can cope. If you do get an off-road buggy, they are easy to manoeuvre albeit a bit cumbersome. Choose a fixed wheel if you will be using it mostly in the woods as the fixed wheel is better suited for rough terrain and beaches. If you are using the buggy on the pavement aswell then go for a swivel wheel that can be fixed also. Swivel wheels do not work well on rough terrain. Hope that helps.

we have a Jane 360 Powertrack that we got for our son born in April last year and it is great. We now use it for our 4 month old daughter.
We got the Matrix car seat for it which means the baby can lie down flat when in the car or when it's attached to the pram chassis. The only problem is that when it is in an upright position it is bigger than most baby car seats and didn't fit in the back of my car (A 2002 Nissan Almera)!. It does fit in the front but I can't use it thee as I can't switch the airbag off!! It is fine in my husbands VW Passat though.
It was quite expensive- about £500 but well worth it cos it will definitely last my daughter till she is 4.

You shouldn't use those strollers till baby is about 3-4 months old...it is not recommended for newborns as it is hard on their necks.
