Illegitimi non carborundum is a mock-Latin aphorism jokingly taken to mean "don't let the bastards grind you down". Although Carborundum is not a latin word, undum comes fro a gerund , and illegitimi is illegitimate.

But it's not a literal translation, it's a weird one :o) It was coined during the war, none of the words are actually Latin, but everyone who knows their Latin knows what it means.
