Although many families eat turkey at Christmas, ham is actually more traditional. Believe it or not, this hearkens back to the pagan festivals celebrated around this time of year. Emperor Constantine found it much easier to simply put the Christian holiday during a time when the pagans were already celebrating. For this reason many of our Christmas traditions still have undertones of the Yule traditions that pre-date Christmas. Among these are the traditional Christmas ham that is tied to the sacrifice of a pig during solstice celebrations.
But... in answer to your question. It is probably because it tastes great, is relatively easy to cook, and is large enough to feed the extended family.

Because it used to be classed as a luxury. It was nice to do have something special at Christmas that we do not have at any other time. However, turkey has now become the norm and is available at any time of the year. When I was a kid we used to look forward to a really nice cut of beef for Christmas rather than the usual cheap grisly joint that we had on Sundays. However, in the sixties it was chicken that was the special meal at Christmas in our house. Whatever type of food you have, it needs to be something 'special' to be a treat as part of the celebration of Christmas, whatever your custom or practise.

We eat turkey at Christmas because in my country it is very expensive to buy, At Christmas we save to buy it , Because it's nice to give the family a treat. And other family members come to have lunch with us,so it is nice to share with every one who visit.

I eat turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas. I am pretty sure ham is traditional, not turkey.

We never used to as kids in the 50's and 60's. It was always chicken at Christmas and a roast joint every Sunday. It's an American import, a hangover from Thanksgiving.
