No...self-respect is about looking after yourself to look your best and be on your best behaviour.
While self-esteem is more like confidence in one-self and pride in one-self..

You need to have self-respect before you can respect others.

People who insult others are demeaning themselves in doing so.

Nobody will respect you if you don't respect yourself.

Respect has a lot to do with moral values. You either have them...or you don't. Moral values can only be taugh to you by your parents.

When you refuse to listen to your parents and have the bad habit to tell your parents and your teachers at school to get lost...chances are very good that you will become a loser with no moral values and no self-respect.

Self-respect means factoring in more than one thing. Of course you should respect yourself but that line may be different from others belief of self-respect. So beleive that dressing or actions demonstrate or prove a certain form of self-respect. When other feel that you have to more to prove it. It means what it says what ever proves to yourself as a symbol of self-respect should satisfy you. If you are asking according to a faith? Well now no one has that kind of time. There is a general rule that society usually follows. Everyone keep their clothes on in public restaurants and no one play with themselves while waiting to pick up children from school.
If you live your life to not just meet your need but to better others lives such as during this season going out and helping those who need you then you may find an understanding of respecting yourself because it generally comes along with respecting others.
Selfrespect comes from hearing how good a person you are or telling you "Thank You" when you shared a part of yourself. Self-esteem is security in understanding how significant you are. And you are or you would never have made it to see the light of day.

Showing self confidence in yourself, but not being over confident or "cocky" if someone shows a lack of confidence, certain people will take advantage of that, and walk all over that person.

i would say not self-esteem really.
but self-respect is doing things for yourself that you need to do.
for example, leaving an abusive relationship.
getting enough sleep and eating right.
getting your own life together...doing the work you should do
to make a good life for yourself.
putting your own needs first.
