Motherboard contains CMOS battery which updates the time
just like the wall clock
Every time when system started it fetches time from system clock when ever you put off your battery the time will reset .

The motherboard has a clock built into it that is kept going by the CMOS Battery. If the CMOS Battery goes bad or is removed, your time will reset.
