I am happliy married to a wonderful guy, but am a public figure at times due to my job. This old guy and I went on after many years to new lives. He noticed me in a nwspp article and sent an email. I just erased it but feel guilty I didn't mention it to my spouse. My thinking is why? It might hurt him and I wouldn't do that for the world. So I just erased it and did not reply- rude of the guy anyway I think. Was I wrong?

No you were not wrong.... the only reason you would have to tell your husband would be if he asked you out and you said yes..... No need in telling him and getting him all worked up over nothing... Just go on with your life and forget about the e-mail.....

VERY GOOD MOVE! Erasing the e-mail and not retaining his e-mail address is the best thing you could have done. If he e-mails again I would suggest you let him know in no uncertain terms that you do not want to communicate with him. You should also copy your husband on the correspondence. It would be better for him to SEE you telling this guy to leave you alone.

If you have not permanently delete the original e-mail, undelete it and use that one as the response to him. I would think the email would have references to the fact he saw you mentioned in an article. That shows the first contact was made by him.

You husband will thank you for your honesty. Those kind of gestures build the bond between spouses.

YOU WEE NOT WRONG FOR DELETING THE EMAIL WITHOUT REPLYING. I HAVE BEEN IN THE SIMILAR SITUATION SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I ALWAYS TELL MY HUSBAND. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING BETWEEN US, ESPECIALLY SOMETHING THAT I DON'T CONCIDER IMPORTANT FOR MYSELF. IT COULD CAUSE TROUBLES IF HE FINDS OUT THAT YOU HID THAT FROM HIM- IT WILL DEFINITELY HURT HIM AND HE WOULD WONDER WHY YOU DIDN'T TELL HIM. SO THAT SMALL UNPLEASANT SITUATION CAN GROW INTO A BIG UNPLEASANT PROBLEM! YOU WILL FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU TELL HIM, THAT IS FOR SURE.

If you want you marriage to be healthy, then you shouldn't hide anything from him. Yes, it may not seem like an issue, but he would get offended more by you hiding something from him rather than simply telling him. It will cause a lot less hurt feelings and arguements.

I'm still trying to get this through my wife's head...

You deleted the email, and obviously have no intention of communicating with this man. It would serve no purpose to tell hubby about it.
