Follow your gut instinct. Call them up the next day, just to say hello. The whole bit about 'rules' governing social interactions is totally and utterly ridiculous.
Just doin't make a habit of being a nuisance with phone calls. Call, leave a message, if they don't call back...then don't try again for a long time.

There is no time period and I wish people wouls stop thinking it is. Life is too short to make a big fuss out of this and I here it all the time. When you have the time and you want to call....call.

I would call the next day if you want. Otherwise, you are just playing games. If they're worth it, it won't matter.
