I'm sick of following everyone else and just hoping everything works out in the end. I need a plan now. I love music. [i've been in band at school for 7 years; i play over 10 instruments.] i don't want to keep playing classical music. i don't want to direct because i have a bad temper and i'd throw things. i have a band, but i don't want to be relying solely on that. i want to tour the world with a band. i want to continue being a promoter my whole life. i want to have fun. but i need to figure out what i have to do to accomplish this. help?

You're awesome. You play 10 instruments. Is that true? How good are you? If you're any good, would you be willing to teach someone? A child, an old grandfather who still wants to do something with his life and wants to take up piano?

I would recommend you sit down, camly write down all the things you need to do to finish your school, and then calmly write down all the instruments you know how to play.

I would recommend you create a flyer (use Word) and ask businesses in your area if you can post it. They will more than likely say yes. But this if they say no, just forget about them. It's their loss.

Then I would recommend you go to Craigslist.com and advertise your teaching services. Don't charge too much (you're still pretty young, so your rates should be reasonable). But feel free to brag about your abilities. If you can, capture yourself playing an instrument, upload it to YouTube, and promote that video on Craigslist as proof of your talent.

Once you're done with high school, even if you only pass by a tiny margin, you will have 2 or 3 years of teaching experience. You will have clients and you will actually have a reputation. If you want to go to New York, you can go to clubs and ask bar owners if you can play there (even if you do it for free at first). In the meantime, to make money, keep advertising your music lessons and keep updating your videos of yourself playing music. That way you won't only be famous outside in the real world, you'll be famous online.

And who know? You'll be more knowledgeable about the world and about ways to promote yourself and sell not only yourself, but you music.

Good luck.

You have to get a good education in high school and follow up with a good college education if you want to do more with your music that either teach privately or be in a band. You need some business education to promote and manage your affairs correctly so that you can have fun with your music. It will also help in composing your own music, look into the life of the young man that composed RENT. Expand your point of view. You have put so much energy into your music, put some into the rest of the activities in your life. Good luck.

Grow up!! get a grip on your temper it is not cute. If you won't reach out for help read up on anger management and conflict resolution. develop some coping skills.
No one will want to to help you launch a music career if you are unreliable and explosive.
If you can not pull your grades up to at least a low B. You will not be able to get into any colleges. Their are some good music technology schools around sound engineering etc ( search 5 Towns College in NY) The best jobs in music are highly competitive and you will need more than an interest and a bit of talent.

After high school, look around for music schools that teach that type of music you would like to get into.

Finish your school first, then after that you can do whatever you want.
