No, she went from being called Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to Diana, Princess of Wales after she and Prince Charles divorced. Princess Di is just a nickname because it's a lot easier than saying/writing Diana, Princess of Wales.

A said above, she retained the title of Princess, but with different emphasis. Consider if you will, she damned well earned it! Imagine being married and bearing sons to a Prince who was fornicating with a horse faced Rottweiler!
Charles "That Cheeky Lad"
P.S. A lot of us did love her. She was regal, royal, and though troubled, remained very much a lady of high qualities. She did more to being good looks to the lineage than anyone has in decades. AMEN Jamocha!
P.P.S. The Rottie will never be called "Princess" because she's damned lucky she and Chuckie weren't banished to France. She, with him was an adulteress, a divorcee eventually, and so forth.
Bluntly, the monarchy would have not survived had it not been for the Young Princes Princess Diana brought into the lineage. Charles certainly isn't worth a great deal.

She was allowed to keep her title as part of the divorce agreement. Her proper title was Her Royal Highness Diana, Princess of Wales but she had to drop the HRH bit on the divorce. People called her Princess Di as a term of affection.

Actually as part of the divorce settlement, she was stripped of the HRH title but kept the Princess of Wales part plus the tabloid press reflect the language of the public and the public call her Princess Di.
I wish the media would stop talking about her full-stop. She was a nice enough woman but not the saint the way she is made out to be by a lot of people still.

Her official name after the divorce was Diana, Princess of Wales. Even before the divorce the only difference was the 'Her Royal Highness' in front of that. She was never ever Princess Diana, that is incorrect but it didn't stop people and the press using it!

Even if she had bn stripped of the "Princess" title, she would hv never bn called anything but Princess Diana. She was the epitome of a fairytale princess, at least until too much daylight was allowed into that mysterious world. That is just the way she is remembered. What difference could it possibly mean to u?

Royal protocol decreed that as she was the mother of the future King of England her title would continue to be Diana Princess of Wales

It was kinda the same idea with Tina Turner, she kept the name even after they Got divorced.
There was probably a suite for the royal title. Dianna had a lot of amo against Charles. So to ensure it didn't leak the Queen let Dianna keep the royal title of Princess.

I always heared people call her lady Di. She was a princess for a while anyway and I think some people just kept using the name. I still call star burst, fruit pastils and somerfield, Gateways! lol and that was years ago. I don't think it really matters anyway. Her son will be king one day and nobody ever calls the other one Princess Camilla.

Once she married Charles, she earned the title of "Princess." After they divorced, the people still liked her and so the title stuck, even if she gave it up. Even Tony Blair considered her as the "people's princess."
