The French Revolution (1789–1799/1804) was a vital period in the history of French, European and Western civilization. During this time, republicanism replaced the absolute monarchy in France, and the country's Roman Catholic Church was forced to undergo a radical restructuring. While France would oscillate among republic, empire, and monarchy for 75 years after the First Republic fell to a coup d'état, the Revolution is widely seen as a major turning point in the history of Western democracy — from the age of absolutism and aristocracy, to the age of the citizenry as the dominant political force.
The slogan of the French Revolution was "Liberté, égalité, fraternité, ou la mort!" ("Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death!"). This slogan outlived the revolution, later becoming the rallying cry of activists, both militant and non-violent, who promote democracy or overthrow oppressive governments.

It began with the "convocation des états généraux" in 1789 which were what we call the represented room. Before this date, the king made what he wanted appointed ministers and dismiss them as he wanted. During 2 years, the privilege of noble were suppressed and the government was less dictatorial. In 1791, the king wanted to quit the country and was caught in Varennes. After this the people had no confidence with him. In 1792 ,it was discovered that the queen had asked to the other courts of Europe to invade France. So , September 21, 1792 republic was proclaimed . After this there was a fierce struggle between federalists (named girondins from gironde Bordeaux who were moderate and tried to calm the party ) and montagnards left wing
who initiated a terror regime especially after the execution of the king. Things go even worse, defeat on battle camps, revolt of royalists and the terror was initiated especially by Robespierre and Saint Just. After a blood bath , Robespierre was condemned by persons who were afraid to be killed. He was executed The1 10th of thermidor (July 1794) and the corrupt members of the directoire ruled the country.
