is there a base level of intelligence below which its impossible to succeed at acting?

can great complex roles only be played by actors who are of above average intelligence?

i know intelligence is hard to define...but i suppose i am asking what part an actors intelligence plays in the roles he gets to play.

Like some singers, there are actors who can cite the most complex of learned `words`, but in `real life` can`t string two words together, and others who would put some of us to shame. It is wise therefore not to generalize.

acting intelligent is nothing to do with the actors own intelligence as they are performing the script, however i think it would be best put as would someone like the actor who plays billy mitchell (dont know his intelligence level sorry) in eastenders be better at playing the role of someone like Einstein than stephen fry who is not really a great actor but bloody super intelligent

in short it is down to how each actor is directed and perceives their own role and is pereived by others to be playing the role.

again to be put abother way who played james bond the best,

i think it is a combination of many different things coming together and working right to make each individual performance outstanding.

Most actors respond with a level of intelligence that the script requires. Hence the word Acting!

They don't need to be intelligent, they just need to memorize their lines...
