Tango is very unique. It's passionate and sexy, and to many of us classy, even though it was anything but when it began. It's very exciting to watch. It's flashy and fun and, like I said, sexy. The moves are very different from the moves you'll find in other partner dances. The connection is even different.
Once you start to dance it and it enters your soul you learn to appreciate it at a much deeper level. There is just something magical about the connection between you, your partner, the music, and the floor. The world disappears and it's nothing but those 4 entities. It's quite amazing. You can achieve this state in a lot of dances but Tango is extra special.
It's also incredibly difficult and a lot of people like the challenge.

Many Americans do not know how to dance with a partner. My guess, as an American, is that many of us watch others dancing the Tango and wish that we could dance like that. I'm not sure that even if I knew how to dance the Tango that there would be the opportunity to do so in my town. I live a small city in the Mid-West. I'm sure big cities have dance clubs where the Tango is danced.

Many Americans like to watching Tango even if they don't know how to dance. Tango has an exciting beat, an interesting rhythm and is pleasant to watch. It can be unpredictable and there's just a little bit of sex appeal thrown in. It's a couple dance that will never go out of style.

Many probably do like Tango. Of course most Americans are more familiar with the Ballroom style of Tango, as performed on programs like "Dancing with the Stars", than with any other style, such as Argentine Tango. I personally enjoy most forms of dance, whether watching or dancing myself.

As a percentage of the population, tango dancers are very few. As a matter of fact, trained dancers of any type are few, and partner dances like tango require training. But those who dance enjoy tango especially for the special passion of the music. Whether the classic Gardel or the NeoTango of Piazzola, one would have to be dead not to be moved by the music.

Like some of the previous answers, most do not know how to dance the tango, or even dance well with partners. Most see these dances on television, like 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'So You Think You Can Dance', and wish to do them but it requires training and a willing partner to learn it with you. For those of us who do like it however, we like it because it is passionate. You feel connected on a whole different level, sometimes even sex cannot take you there.

I don't personally like the tango. It has way to many ocho's to remember. I agree with the other people about Americans not knowing how to dance.
