the taxes we pay on alcohol and cigarettes pays into healthcare. So if you got rid of smokers and drinkers, you would have to tax the crap out of something else. I think it is a fair system, and people should treat each other with more respect.

Personally as a fat smoker i understand the risks. I also pay 300 bucks a month for my health insureance.

I understand that if i need medical attention that it will cost money. And i have that kind of cash.

I buy my own food, i buy my own smokes. I enjoy both.

I do my part for this economy. I spend at least 5 bucks a day on lunch and a pack of smokes.

So i need no thanks, i am just paying for what i do, and paying for what might happen.

Keeping our economy strong? Really? Hundreds of thousands of man hours lost in the general workforce every year, as a result of smoking, or obesity-related sicknesses. Why does anybody think that our hospital charges are so high? Seems the very people who can find money to smoke multiple packs of cigarettes a day, and stuff themselves silly on junk food, are the same ones who turn up in emergency rooms with their diabetic induced comas, and failed body organs, and their heart attacks from blocked arteries - without medical insurance which they say they couldn't afford and the rest of us poor mugs are paying their bills. And that applies equally to those of us who have excellent medical insurance cover, because OUR premiums are going through the roof.
These people aren't strengthening our economy, they're breaking it.

No. Obese people and smokers make the economy worse by driving up health care expenses and the cost of health insurance.

Absolutely! They are being good consumers; not hoarding the money they make, but creating employment by keeping money in circulation. We should be voting them into public office ; )
