you can consider getting a shar pei, (wrinkly teddy bears) they are great with kids do not need that much excercise as they are couch potatoes, will give you lots of love and make great companions...

I would suggest a small dog, but not toy breed. Toy breeds are often not good with kids. A beagle is small and good with kids, they do require a daily walk or two, as would all dogs. A basset hound would be a good dog as well. With both dogs mentioned above you would have a problem of howling. That would be the only thing to consider living in an appt.
A cocker spaniel, or king charles spaniel would be a godd dog with children, they dont howl, and require less space than a big dog.
These are some good choices, but ultimatly it is up to your personal preference between the breeds.

We have a small house and i have two children 5 and 3. We have a Yorkshire Terrier, its perfect. Just the right size for the house, dosent take up too much room and has a fantastic personality. He is so good with the children who are not good all the time to him! He is very loving and is not worried being left on his own for a bit either.

DO NOT Get A TOY Or SMALL DOG WITH LITTLE KIDS! small dog breeds do not like little kids, they will bite a lot...I live in a small 2 bedroom apt, I have a pit bull and 3 kids (youngest is 2), they are really great family dogs, you get them as a puppy and raise with a lot of love :) Pitbulls have a really tallerable attitude towards kids, and they are loyal and love able, just have to raise them properly with lots of love :) The American Pitbull Terrier used to be the all american family dog, aremember little rascals the old tellivisions show? their dog with a circle arounds its eye? that was a pitbull, they are great with kids and dont mind small houses, just have to walk them, like any dog :) Hope this helps :)

I had a Min Pin they are small. My dog Austin was the sweetest thing he loved kids, cats and people. He had alot of energy which is perfect if you have kids because they will throw the ball and the min pin will keep playing.
If your house is small you could consider a cat they like to play and dont need alot of room like some dogs. Plus you don't have to walk them.(I had a cat when I was a Kid and Loved her as much as my dogs).
you could also consider fostering a dog there are alot of no kill rescues out there who have too many dogs and love to find people with kids to foster a pet and love it . you never know you may fall in love and adopt the dog.

Go to www.akc.org and click on the tab "For Future Dog Owners." There is a lot of info there to help you decide which breed might be best for you. Also keep in mind there are a lot wonderful dogs at your local shelter waiting to be adopted by a loving family!

ok there is a place in Mississippi called Wildrose Kennels and they breed and train British labs which are smaller than regular labs especially females (45-55 lbs) and they train them so that they are calm and very obedient and are great for hunting also but can also just be a companion. go to www.uklabs.com if you would like to check it out. We got a dog from there a few days ago and we LOVE her. She is so calm and so obedient its wonderful.

Check with your local animal shelter. Not only will you be saving a life, but you can get a mature dog that is already used to children and going "potty" outside.
Often, the shelter workers will be able to help you pick the perfect match for your family!
Good luck!

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
We have one and he loves children and would never hurt them, no matter what they may do to him. He is a lovely looking dog and can handle loads of exercise, or very little exercise, he doesn't seem to mind which
